Metallurgy & Steel

LiDAR is vital for precision and safety in metallurgy and steel plants.

LiDAR is vital for precision and safety in metallurgy and steel plants. It continuously monitors the structural integrity of critical assets like blast furnaces and ladles, measures stockpile volumes of raw materials, and guides automated cranes. This non-contact 3D scanning ensures operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and enhanced worker safety.

Principles

LiDAR, an acronym for "Light Detection and Ranging", operates by emitting pulsed laser
light towards a target and measuring the reflected pulses with a sensor. By calculating
the Time of Flight (ToF) of the laser, the system generates precise 3D point cloud data,
providing critical information such as distance, position, shape, and size.

LiDAR enables key functions in metallurgy, primarily for overhead crane scanning and automated truck loading. It provides real-time 3D mapping to guide cranes safely and position materials with millimeter precision. For loading, it scans truck beds to calculate the exact volume required, enabling fully automated, efficient, and consistent material filling operations.
